Plans to begin construction
are moving right along.
Plans to begin construction of our biodiesel plant cleared a
major hurdle last month when the County Commissioners approved
the building permit. Now the matter is in the hands of planning
and zoning, who have to rule of the Haz-Mat status of the plant.
The ruling won't affect whether or not the plant will be built,
but it will have a significant outcome on the plans, design
and cots of the plant. I'll keep you posted! |

Myth:
Biodiesel is the same thing as raw vegetable oil.
Fact: Vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications,
it is not registered with the EPA, and it is not a legal
motor fuel. |
 |
Biodiesel is produced through a
refinery process called transesterification. This process
is a reaction of the oil with an alcohol to remove the
glycerin, which is a by-product of biodiesel production.
Fuel-grade biodiesel must be produced to strict industry
specifications (ASTM D6751) in order to insure proper
performance. Biodiesel that meets ASTM D6751 legally registered
with the Environmental Protection Agency is a legal motor
fuel for sale and distribution.

When
complete, the Maryland Biodiesel plant will be the only
plant in Maryland to blend biodiesel. Currently the project
is in the hands of the Worcester County Commissioners
who are deciding on the twin issues of zoning and HazMat
regulations. |
| Today, Biodiesel is America's
fastest growing alternative fuel. It is being used extensively
by branches of the U.S. military and countless, municipalities
and private fleets. |

Ginger
Warren to testify in Annapolis
Mrs. Warren testified on Senate
Bill 54, proposed by Maryland State Senator John A Giannetti,
Jr. (D-District 21) The bill is entitled State-Owned
Vehicles - State Fleet Biodiesel Fuel Usage Act of 2006.
This bill requires at least 50% of vehicles using diesel
fuel in the State vehicle fleet use a blend of fuel that
is at least 5% biodiesel fuel. Part of Mrs. Warren's testimony
will focus on the clash that sometimes occurs between
environmentalists and farmers are non-existent in the
area of bio-fuels. Use of biodiesel in a conventional
diesel engine results in substantial reduction of hydrocarbons,
carbon monoxide other pollutants. In fact, the Chesapeake
Bay Foundation, a leading environmental group, is calling
for $8 million to grow crops that can be used to produce
biodiesel. |

Fleet
Use of Biodiesel
B20 works in any diesel engine
with few or no modifications to the engine or the fuel
system. B20 provides similar horsepower, torque and mileage
as diesel. |

Why
Use Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is better for the environment
because it is made from renewable resources and has lower
emissions compared to petroleum diesel.Since it is made
in the USA its use decreases our dependence on foreign
oil and contributes to our own economy. |
